Pell Grants and Why Students Should Apply

5. Students Without Parental Support

Not everyone has the option of calling up their parents and asking for help. Not everyone lives with their parents when they start school. Some students, whether because they no longer have parents or are old enough to have been living out of the house for some time, are considered independent students. What this means is, your parents’ income isn’t taken into account when applying for financial aid. Instead, only yours is, and since you haven’t gotten your degree, you likely don’t make enough to disqualify you from grants. This kind of student would be an ideal candidate for this kind of funding.
